Model, actor, and reality TV star Poonam Pandey shocked her fans and followers when she announced on Instagram that she is alive and well, contrary to a previous post by her manager stating that she had died of cervical cancer.
In a series of videos posted on Saturday, Pandey apologized for the distress caused by the false news of her death. She clarified, “I am alive. I didn’t die of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I can’t say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer.”
Pandey used the platform to raise awareness about cervical cancer, a disease she emphasized is entirely preventable with the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. She urged her followers to empower each other with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take to prevent this disease.
In a bold move, Pandey admitted to faking her demise to bring attention to cervical cancer. “Yes, I faked my demise, extreme I know. But suddenly, we all are talking about cervical cancer, aren’t we? It’s a disease that silently takes your life. And this disease needed the spotlight urgently. I’m proud of what my death news has been able to achieve,” she said.
Pandey and Hauterrfly, a lifestyle platform, shared the video with the caption, “Poonam Pandey is alive and well! Her bold act aims to spotlight the urgency of regular screenings, early detection, and the power of knowledge in conquering this silent threat. Join us in celebrating her resilience and spreading the crucial message.”
