Late on Monday night, Bajrang Dal activists staged a protest at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress office, Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks, which they deemed ‘anti-Hindu.’ The demonstration involved plastering posters critical of Gandhi’s alleged stance and defacing his photos and banners with black ink.
The Congress office was locked when Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal workers arrived, armed with spray paints and posters. Undeterred, they entered the premises by jumping the gate.
Upon discovering the incident, Congress workers promptly removed the torn posters and banners, restoring the defaced banner. The photos of Rahul Gandhi, sprayed with paint, were also taken down. Outside the Congress office, a significant police presence was deployed, and leaders gradually arrived to assess the situation. The Congress party announced its intention to file a police complaint regarding the incident.
Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had recently delivered his inaugural speech. In it, he made remarks about those who identify as Hindus discussing violence. The statement sparked controversy, with Prime Minister Modi intervening to emphasize the seriousness of labelling Hindus as violent. Home Minister Amit Shah also demanded an apology from Gandhi.
