After Nupur Sharma’s controversial comments on the Prophet,a ruckus has been broken in many cities across the country. Gujarat police have arrested eight people, 5 from Rajkot and 3, from Surat for spreading posters of Nupur Sharma, with the impression of a shoe print. The accused did not stop at sticking posters, as they also sought to create political unrest by circulating aggressive messages on Whatsapp, encouraging that events in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, which witnessed a large amount of violence and unrest, be repeated in Gujarat as well.
A video of two individuals seen sticking posters of Nupur Sharma with a symbol of a shoe print has gone viral in the last 2 to 3 days. The attached text aims to persuade Muslims that they must not stop at just printing posters, but also ensure that events in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand are repeated.
Post investigation, police found Mohammed Taufiq Mohammed Rafig Shaikh(resident of Chand Subedar Building, Nanpura) and Saddam Rauf Syed (resident of Jamalsha Mohalla, Kadasha Ni Naal), as the culprits; they were the people seen sticking posters of Nupur Sharma in the video.
Protests were held simultaneously in 90 places in 14 states, out of which some places saw ugly stone pelting and slogan shouting as well. The police are set to curb communal violence and put a check on all the protests occurring with respect to this controversy.
