An unidentified person threw a stone at a train travelling to Uttar Pradesh, close to Jalgaon station in Maharashtra. The passengers were going to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh fair, and they had boarded the Tapti Ganga Express from Udhna Railway Station in Surat.
Following the incident, the glass window of a coach seat cracked. The Jalgaon police said no injuries were reported. The police have registered an offence and initiated a probe.
Jalgaon RPF police inspector DH Patil said that someone threw a stone at the B/6 coach, berth number 39 just five minutes after the train left Jalgaon Railway Station. He said the passengers in the coach were shocked and immediately informed the Ticket Checker (TC), Sohan Lal.
Lal reached the berth, assessed the situation, and assured the passengers that help would be provided. When the train reached Bhusaval station 25 minutes later, RPF officials checked the entire coach and spoke to both the TC and the passengers.
The TC lodged a complaint with the Jalgaon RPF police station on Sunday evening, leading to the registration of an offence under Indian Railway Act sections 153 and 147 against an unknown person.
Patil that Lal had spoken to two youths seated on the entry gate steps of the B-6 coach, who informed him that they had seen someone around 20 to 22 years old, throwing the stone.
Patil mentioned that after the offence was registered, they arranged patrolling along a one-kilometre stretch up to Shivajinagar but found nothing suspicious. He said they were in contact with local residents in nearby slum settlements to track down the suspect.
