Prince Harry opened up about his father King Charles’ battle with cancer and how it could help mend the strained relations within the royal family. He spoke to Good Morning America in his first public comments since he visited his father in the UK earlier this month.
He said he was grateful to be able to see his father and spend some time with him, adding that he loved his family. He also said he believed that any illness or sickness could bring families together, and he hoped that would be the case for his own. He said he witnessed the strength of the family unit among the [Invictus] families he worked with.
King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this month and announced it through Buckingham Palace, has been receiving treatment in London and is now resting at Sandringham. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are currently in Canada. Prince Harry met his father for 45 minutes during his brief trip to the UK.
King Charles thanked his supporters around the world for their messages of support and good wishes, saying they were the greatest comfort and encouragement for anyone affected by cancer. He also said he was determined to continue his work and duties as the King.
Former royal correspondent Michael Cole praised King Charles for his work ethic and dedication, saying he could never be faulted for his lack of work. He said King Charles was working hard on his state papers, which he received in red boxes, and was very industrious.
