President Droupadi Murmu awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra to Nayab Subedar Sanjaykumar Bhamarsinh Baria during a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday. Sanjay Kumar, hailing from Khojalvasa village in Panchmahal district, received this honour in recognition of his exceptional courage during an army operation in 2023.
On June 12, 2023, the Indian Army received critical intelligence about terrorists infiltrating Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. Sanjay Kumar, a dedicated soldier serving in the 21st Battalion of the Mahar Regiment, was part of a specialised team assembled to confront the threat head-on. In the dense forest terrain, he fearlessly engaged the terrorists, ultimately eliminating one of them during the intense 12-day operation.
The Indian Army, along with the Home Department, lauded Sanjaykumar’s unwavering commitment and valour. His actions exemplify the spirit of the Shaurya Chakra, honouring those who selflessly serve and protect our nation.
