The Gujarat traffic police division has issued a notification warning its own policemen and police officials to abide by the traffic norms. The traffic notification apparently mentions that it has come to their knowledge that some police personnel and officials are roaming on their vehicles without wearing helmets and without an HSRP number plate.
The notification also mentions that many of them have been noticed with pasting “P” or “Police” stickers on their vehicles, which is clearly flouting traffic norms. Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) Mayank Chavda said that they informed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, ranked traffic officials, to take strict action against such policemen who flout traffic norms. “There is a special traffic drive organised from July 23 against policemen who flout traffic norms. The action will be taken under the Motor Vehicle Act,” said JCP Chavda. Special traffic points are set up at strategic points in the city to trace policemen who violate traffic norms. “The Action Taken Report (ATR) will have to be sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the respective zone”, said a senior traffic police official.
