Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been a people’s man, whether it’s through his chai pe charcha tea sessions or his monthly radio broadcasts. Now, he’s stepping up his game with a new, more interactive format: dinner parties with BJP legislators, where the main course is not just food but a healthy serving of governance wisdom.
The latest session took place in Bhopal on Sunday, where Modi entertained the MPs and MLAs with two hours of valuable lessons. From insights on maintaining bonds with party workers to encouraging a ‘don’t fight, befriend’ strategy with government officials, the PM’s advice was as rich as the dinner spread.
The PM even went full health guru, stressing the importance of fitness and urging the legislators to not just connect with their constituencies but be their constituencies. He even shared a story about how he once convinced a Ujjwala beneficiary to make him tea using her new gas stove.
The PM also emphasised being in touch with “party karyakartas (workers)” in the constituency. “It was nothing about politics but about governance and development,” one MLA told a certain section of the media.
“He advised us not to fight with the officials. ‘You have to get the work done, so don’t fight with them but have friendship with them’ was his advice,” the legislator was quoted as saying.
But it wasn’t all about the work. Modi also advocated women’s empowerment, advising the legislators to engage with women in their constituencies and ensure that government schemes, like PM Awas Yojana, really made a difference in their lives.
In previous sessions, such as those in Odisha and Maharashtra, India’s Prime Minister made similar points sprinkled with examples. In Odisha, the PM’s interaction was described as “family-like,” suggesting that even the nation’s top leader occasionally wants to unwind with a few good friends and a hearty meal.
