His mother’s demise early Friday morning brought Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Gandhinagar for the last rites. Heeraba was 100 and as Modi himself has stated, “the source of all his learning.” He tweeted early this morning that in her he saw the Trinity: a tapasvi, a karmyogi and being dedicated to good deeds.
While the last rites were held at 9:30 am IST Friday morning, the PM will stay back in Gandhinagar for the day. However, he will join today’s scheduled events in West Bengal through video conferencing, his office tweeted a while ago.
“PM will join today’s scheduled programmes in West Bengal via video conferencing. These programmes include the launch of key connectivity-related projects and the meeting of the National Ganga Council,” the post read. He is expected to formally unveil developmental projects worth more than ₹7,800 crore. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and other officials are also expected to take part in the virtual meets.
Modi’s visit to Bengal was to flag off Vande Bharat Express connecting Howrah to New Jalpaiguri at Howrah Railway Station and to inaugurate the Joka-Taratala stretch of the Purple Line of Kolkata Metro.
According to an official release by the PMO, the 6.5-km long Joka-Taratala stretch of the Kolkata Metro, having six stations namely Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakher Bazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar and Taratala has been constructed at a cost of more than ₹ 2475 Crore.
Passengers of southern parts of Kolkata like Sarsuna, Dakghar, Muchipara and South 24 Parganas will be immensely benefited from the inauguration of this project.
PM Modi will also virtually lay the foundation stone of multiple Railway projects along with the foundation stone of the redevelopment of New Jalpaiguri Railway station. He will also chair a meet of the National Ganga Council.
He will also virtually inaugurate seven sewerage infrastructure projects (20 Sewage Treatment Plants and 612 km network) developed under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) at a cost of more than ₹990 crore.
Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for 5 sewerage infrastructure projects (8 Sewage Treatment Plants and 80 Km Network) to be developed under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) at an estimated cost of ₹1585 crore.
