During his visit to Gujarat, PM Modi praised the Kshatriya community for its sacrifices and paid a visit to Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji at his residence. The scion of the Jamnagar royal family holds a significant place in the region’s history and within the community..
PM Modi’s visit holds political significance as it occurred just ahead of his poll rally in Jamnagar. The Rajkot Lok Sabha seat, where Rupala is contesting, is scheduled for polling on May 7. The Kshatriya community, angered by Rupala’s slip of toungue, seemed united in opposing the candidature of Rupala. The community seems hurt when even after a major gathering on 14th April at Ratanpur, near Rajkot, of the Kshtriyas from across the state failed to move the BJP leadership. Though the Kshtriya community has been loyal supporters of BJP in the state so far, the anger which was contained for an individual, seems to be spilling over towards party now.
In his address during the rally, PM Modi recalled the historic Battle of Bhuchar Mori, fought in 1591 between the army of Kathiawar led by Nawanagar State and the Mughal army. The battle, which resulted in significant casualties on both sides, holds cultural and historical importance in the region. PM Modi emphasized that he attended an event at Bhuchar Mori during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, despite the prevailing superstition that such visits could lead to the loss of the CM’s position.
The meeting with Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji was meant to convey symbolic respect for the royal lineage and also served as a strategic move in the context of the ongoing Kshatriya andolan. As the election season unfolds, PM Modi’s engagement reflects the intricate interplay of politics, culture, and identity in Gujarat.
PM Modi. highlighting the delicate balance between political aspirations and community sentiments in the state said that “If Jaamsaheb offered me the turban and gave blessings for the victory, we will certainly be victorious.”
