Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Surat, Gujarat, on December 17. The day will commence with the inauguration of the New Integrated Terminal Building at Surat Airport at around 10:45 AM.
The terminal building, designed to reflect the local culture and heritage of Surat City, is equipped to handle 1200 domestic and 600 international passengers during peak hours.
With provisions for further expansion, the terminal’s annual handling capacity is set to increase to 55 lakh passengers. The building’s façade, inspired by the traditional woodwork of Surat City’s ‘Rander’ region, aims to enhance the passenger experience.
The GRIHA IV-compliant terminal is equipped with various sustainability features, including a Double-Insulated Roofing System, energy-saving Canopies, Low-Heat Gain Double Glazing Unit, Rain Water Harvesting, water treatment plant, Sewage treatment plant and use of recycled water for landscaping and a solar power plant.
At around 11:15 AM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse, poised to become the world’s largest and most modern center for the international diamond and jewellery business. The Bourse will serve as a global trading hub for both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewellery.
It will feature a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House’ for import-export activities, a jewellery mall for retail business, and facilities for international banking and safe vaults.
Following these events, the Prime Minister will proceed to Varanasi.
