Next week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate and lay the first stones for nearly 100 National Highway (NH) projects valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh crore. This will occur on Monday, 11th March, when he unveils the stretch of the Dwarka Expressway in Haryana.
The government is also expected to approve significant proposals in its forthcoming Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which could potentially be the last in PM’s second term.
Insiders have revealed that the NH projects for which the PM will lay the first stones include the Bengaluru-Vijayawada expressway, costing Rs 14,000 crore, the Belgaum-Raichur highway (Rs 8,000 cr), and the Shamli-Ambala highway (Rs 5,000 cr). The projects set to be inaugurated include the two packages of the Dwarka Expressway, Kiratpur-Ner Chowk in Himachal Pradesh, and the Narayanpur-Purnea stretch in Bihar.
“This will be one of the largest programmes when so many projects will be opened to the public and foundation stones will be laid in a single day,” said an insider. They added that the PM is also likely to launch several highway projects in the North East when he inaugurates the Sela tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
On Tuesday, during his visit to Gujarat, Modi will also virtually commence around a dozen Vande Bharat trains. A variety of other railway projects will also be inaugurated, insiders have said.
Last week, the PM requested department secretaries to hasten the finalisation of plans so that the laying of foundation stones and inauguration of infrastructure projects can be completed by 12th March.
