PM Modi Reflects on Maha Kumbh, Expresses Gratitude to Devotees

| Updated: February 28, 2025 13:14

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to the people of the country following the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. In a blog post shared on Wednesday, he acknowledged the participation of millions and reflected on the scale of the event, describing it as a symbol of unity and faith.

PM Modi shared the blog on X (formerly Twitter), along with images of the religious gathering, stating in Hindi, “The Maha Kumbh has concluded… the Maha Yagya of unity has been completed. The way the faith of 140 crore countrymen came together for 45 days at the Maha Kumbh of unity in Prayagraj, at one time, and joined this one festival, is overwhelming! I have tried to pen down the thoughts that came to my mind after the completion of the Maha Kumbh…”

He acknowledged the challenges involved in organising an event of such magnitude and issued an apology for any shortcomings.

“I know that organising such a grand event was not easy. I pray to Mother Ganga, Mother Yamuna, Mother Saraswati, O Mother, if there was any shortcoming in our worship, please forgive us. If there was any lapse in serving the devotees, whom I consider the embodiment of God, I also seek forgiveness from the people,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister further noted that the Maha Kumbh has now become a subject of study for management professionals and policy experts worldwide. “The massive participation of devotees in the Maha Kumbh is not just a record but it has also laid a strong foundation for centuries to come, reinforcing and enriching our culture and heritage,” he said.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, the Prime Minister stated that India, while taking pride in its heritage, is progressing with renewed energy. “People from all sections of society and every field came together in this Maha Kumbh. This unforgettable sight of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ became a grand festival of self-confidence for millions of Indians,” he added.

The six-week-long Maha Kumbh concluded on Wednesday, coinciding with Mahashivratri, when hundreds of thousands of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the final holy dip.

Mahashivratri, which marks the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, holds great significance in the Kumbh Mela, a religious congregation held once every 12 years and believed to grant ‘moksha’ to devotees.

During this year’s Maha Kumbh, six special bathing dates were observed—Paush Purnima (January 13), Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12), and Mahashivratri (February 26).

The event included three ‘Amrit Snan’ (holy baths) and saw massive participation from across the country.
