PM Modi Meets Makers Of Oscar-Winning ‘The Elephant Whisperers’

| Updated: March 30, 2023 19:16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met with the makers of the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers. The documentary is the first Indian production to take the award home in the 95th Academy Awards’ Documentary Short Subject category.

On his official Twitter account, the PM posted a few pictures with the producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves.

“The cinematic brilliance and success of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has drawn global attention as well as acclaim. Today, I had the opportunity to meet the brilliant team associated with it. They have made India very proud,” he tweeted.

The short documentary centres on the relationship that forms between a couple and Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant who was entrusted to their care.

The film’s international debut took place at the DOC NYC Film Festival on November 9, 2022. Later, on December 8, 2022, Netflix made it available worldwide.

The touching tale of Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his indigenous caretakers Bomman and Belli is recounted in The Elephant Whisperers. They go to considerable lengths to make sure the weak and hurt baby survives and grows into a healthy juvenile.

The documentary highlights the relationship between humans and animals while also showcasing the diverse flora and fauna of the country. It also looks at how tribal people lived in harmony with the environment.
