Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasised the potential of India’s concert economy, drawing attention to the success of recent high-profile events such as Coldplay’s sold-out concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Speaking at the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, PM Modi highlighted the vast opportunities for boosting tourism, creating jobs, and enhancing the global recognition of India’s creative sector through live events.
The Prime Minister pointed out that India’s rich cultural heritage, large youth population, and growing appetite for live performances make it an attractive destination for international concerts.
“In a country with such a rich heritage in music, dance, and storytelling, with such a large pool of youth and a massive consumer base for concerts, there are vast opportunities for the concert economy,” PM Modi said.
He noted that the demand for live events has significantly increased over the past decade.
Citing the recent Coldplay concerts as an example, PM Modi remarked, “You must have seen the incredible images from the Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in recent days. This is proof of how much scope live concerts have in India.”
He acknowledged the immense success of these concerts, which were sold out, and stressed that they demonstrate the vast potential of the concert economy in the country.
The Prime Minister further highlighted that top international artists are increasingly being drawn to India, underscoring the country’s growing status as a global hub for live entertainment. He also called for greater investment in infrastructure for the concert economy from both the state and private sectors, emphasising the sector’s potential to generate massive revenue and employment.
In addition, PM Modi announced that India will host the first-ever World Audio-Visual Summit next month, aiming to showcase the country’s creative power on the global stage. “The concert economy boosts tourism and creates a large number of jobs. I urge both the state and private sectors to focus on the necessary infrastructure for the concert economy,” he said.
He added, “Next month, India will host the first-ever World Audio-Visual Summit, a major event that will give the country’s creative power a new identity globally. The revenue generated from such events in the states also contributes to advancing the economy.”
