PM Modi Calls for Change, Slams AAP’s ‘Disastrous’ Governance

| Updated: January 5, 2025 19:49

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, accusing it of wasting a decade in conflicts with the Centre. Speaking at a rally in the Rohini area, he urged residents of the national capital to give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) an opportunity to transform Delhi into a modern city.

Modi assured that no public welfare schemes would be discontinued if the BJP came to power, but emphasised that his party would eliminate corruption in their implementation.

He described the AAP government as a “disaster” for Delhi and called for change. “Only when this ‘aapda (disaster)’ is gotten rid of in Delhi, the double-engine of development will come in,” he said.

Highlighting the Centre’s contributions to Delhi’s development, Modi mentioned the expansion of highways, the Metro network, the introduction of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System, and the establishment of major hospitals.

Despite these efforts, he pointed out deficiencies in local governance. “The moment you step out of a Metro station, you can see potholed roads, and overflowing sewers. Some areas are such that even auto and cab drivers refuse to ply due to long traffic jams,” he remarked.

The prime minister alleged that Delhi had endured a decade of mismanagement under the AAP government.

“In the past 10 years, Delhi has witnessed a state government that is no less than an ‘aapda (disaster)’! Delhites have realised this. Only one voice is reverberating in Delhi — ‘Aapda nahi sahenge, badal kar rahenge (will not tolerate disaster, will bring change),” Modi asserted.
