Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Jammu and Kashmir, from where he is addressing Gram Sabhas across the country, on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day. During his speech, PM Modi applauded the panchayats and said this system strengthen the spirit of democracy.
PM Modi further said that the government will work towards making the panchayat system more efficient. “The government will see to it that the role of panchayat should be more in planning and implementation of every project related to the development of the village. This way the panchayat will emerge as an important link in the achievement of national resolutions,” he said.
PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development initiatives worth over Rs 20,000 crore in J&K. He will also launch an initiative, Amrit Sarovar, which is aimed at developing and rejuvenating of water bodies. At least 75 water bodies will be benefit from this scheme.
Other projects include Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel, costing more than Rs3,000 crore and construction of Rs7500 crore worth of road packages of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.
This is PM Modi’s first major trip to the Union Territory since the annulment of Article 370 and special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.
