The Gujarat High Court has taken a major step forward in modernising the district court system, launching a pilot project to stream all district court hearings in real time.
This initiative was inaugurated by Supreme Court Justice MR Shah, who remarked that no one can now bluff and claim that their case was not called out.
Chief Justice Aravind Kumar of the Gujarat High Court spoke about the benefits of live-streaming, noting that it will not only promote openness but will also help with stenography and other administrative aspects of the court. Additionally, the Gujarat High Court’s YouTube channel has 1.18 lakh members, with more than 1.72 crore views on the videos it streams.
The Gujarat High Court has also taken action to reduce paperwork, launching an internal portal for judicial officers to interact with the registry. This portal eliminates the need for paper-based processes in order to facilitate smoother and more efficient communication between judicial officials and the Gujarat High Court Registry. Overall, the Gujarat High Court’s efforts to modernise district court proceedings are likely to increase transparency and accountability.
