After a break of fifteen days, Paris once again ready to host the best athletes in the world with the 2024 Paralympic Games. The quadrennial event will take place from August 28 to September 8.
More than 4,400 athletes set to compete in 549 events across 22 sports. A total of 18 of the 35 venues used for the Olympic will be used for the Paralympics.
With the competition set to begin from August 29, the Indian contingent is hoping to beat their tally of 19 medals, including 5 golds, during their iconic Tokyo Paralympics campaign in 2021.
Shot-put star and 2022 Asian Para Games silver medallist Bhagyashree Jadhav, along with Javelin star and the reigning world-record-holder Sumit Antil have been named India’s flagbearers for the Paralympics 2024.
This will also mark a special moment for India, as it will be the country’s largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes, a significant increase from the 54 who competed in Tokyo.
After clinching their record 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, India went on to extend their brilliance by securing another historic record. At the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, India won a massive 111 medals, including 29 golds. On a more recent count, India finished sixth on the overall medals leaderboard at the World Para Athletics Championships in 2024 after winning a total of 17 medals, including 6 golds.
