Goddess of wealth Lakshmi has always been a favoured deity compared to Goddess of knowledge Saraswati in Gujarat. However, the recent cases of paper leaks are anything to go by, the already bleak history of Gujarat’s education is getting bleaker. Paper leak in a primary school is nothing less than a freefall into the abyss. The shame is compounded by the fact that the incident has happened in the school of the district in the Education Minister Jitu Vagani’s constituency.
The principal of the primary school located at Nesvad village in Talaja Taluka of Bhavnagar District has lodged a complaint with the police that the examination papers for standards 6 to 8 are stolen. The school was compelled to cancel the examinations which were to be held on 22nd and 23rd April.
Gujarat has been rocked by a series of paper leak scams recently putting the reputation and integrity of the government at stake. A few days ago, a leak of Hindi paper in Class 10 school board exams happened. The economics exam paper for the B.Comm semester 6 in Veer Narmad South Gujarat University also leaked.
Some of the Paper Leak Scams in Gujarat in recent times are : (1) Recruitment of Chief Officer of GPSC 2013 (2) Revenue Talati Recruitment Examination: 2014 (3) Chief Nurse: 2018 Deputy Chitnis 2018 (4) Police Lokarakshak Dal, 2018 (5)Teacher Eligibility Test, 2018 (6) Non-Secretariat Clerk, 2019 (7) Recruitment of Electrical Assistant in DGVCL: July, 2021 (8) Sub-Auditor October, 2021 (9) Head Clark- December, 2021
LRD paper leak had tarnished the image of the ruling party a lot. So much is the anger against the mismanagement and perception of connivance of the big names that it would not be surprising that a minor political party takes root harnessing the discontent among the youth.
As per the police complaint made by the principal, there was a break-in in the Nesvad village primary school in the night and question papers for the standards 6 to 8 were stolen. Bhavnagar LCB and SOG Dog Squad have started the inquiry based on available clues.
Though other standard examinations will continue as scheduled, the education department has cancelled the examination for the standards concerned.
