A major scam has broken out in Gujarat University (GU). A committee appointed to look into the Computer Concepts Course (CCC) exam is believed to have submitted a report exposing a Rs 18 crore scam.
Officials said GU is believed to have slapped a show-cause notice on Kamaljeet Lakhtaria, former in-charge of the exam as well as Higher Payment Program (HPP). Lakhtaria is expected to respond in 10 days.
The report is likely to be presented in GU’s executive council meeting scheduled on Friday.
The report accuses Lakhtaria of collecting money to pass employees appearing for the exam and increase marks. The amount of money collected depended on the extent of malpractice involved.
Gujarat University is one of the centres to conduct the CCC exam and complaints of malpractice in the exam have been made recently. As a result, an inquiry panel was set up and a forensic inquiry carried out.
Lakhtaria was suspended after allegations were levelled against him related to the CCC exam as well as HPP.
