On the occasion of 57th Border Security Force (BSF) Raising Day, G.S. Malik, IPS and Inspector General of the Border Security Force of Gujarat Frontier spoke about this barrage of drug seizures in Gujarat. “BSF areas have not recorded drug seizures which is a big achievement for the Gujarat Frontier.”
Talking to Vibes of India, emphasizing the tight network of agencies other than BSF in vulnerable areas like Morbi and Porbandar, he said “all agencies are working in collaboration with each other.”
He further mentioned these agencies’ successful attempts in arresting people from Punjab who came to receive drugs from Rajasthan. “They seized drugs twice from the Barmer area of Rajasthan.”
Punjab is mainly known for getting illicit drugs from outside the state via a supply network by either local or international drug traffickers. “Due to high demand of drugs in Punjab, Pakistan continues to smuggle drugs via Rajasthan and Gujarat.”, said G.S Malik (BSF I.G Gujarat Frontier).
Following the same, BSF DIG M L Garg explained the ‘phases of drug supplies’. “With the new Taliban government taking over Afghanistan, many of the other drug dealers, knowing that Taliban is also in the same business, dumped the drugs at the Pakistan border. Following this, Pakistan has been trying to smuggle drugs in India via Rajasthan and Gujarat borders”.
BSF DIG M L Garg further stated that Gujarat Police, Coastal Guards, DRI and Customs have seized around 5000 kg of heroin via the Arabian Sea since 2017. However, the consumption of drugs in Gujarat overall is less because of the cultural influence.
“The efforts to send the drugs in India via Pakistan and other routes are rigorous. But the law enforcement agencies are consistently working towards dismantling their plans.”, he said.
The matter of Morbi drug haul case is currently under investigation.
Keep it up?
