The government of Pakistan has unveiled a ‘master plan’ for the renovation and beautification of temples and gurdwaras across the country, allocating PKR 1 billion for the project. This decision was made during a meeting of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) held on Saturday, chaired by Syed Attaur Rehman.
Rehman confirmed the development plan, stating, “Under a master plan, temples and gurdwaras will be decorated and development works will be done with a budget of PKR 1bn.”
He emphasised the scale of the investment, remarking, “A huge amount of money is being spent on minority places of worship.”
During the meeting, Rehman also highlighted the financial success of the ETPB, noting that the board had generated over Rs 1 billion in revenue this year alone. “The ETPB received more than Rs 1 billion in revenue this year,” he said, underlining the board’s financial health.
The gathering included members of the Hindu and Sikh communities from across Pakistan, alongside representatives from both government and non-government sectors. The meeting also discussed revisions to the ETPB’s development scheme, which board secretary Farid Iqbal elaborated on.
He explained that the scheme would be modified to boost the board’s income by utilising unused land for development. “The department’s revenue will increase multifold by giving such lands that were not used for a long time for development,” Iqbal stated.
The meeting concluded with a decision to appoint a project director to oversee the development and renovation works at various temples and gurdwaras. Additionally, the board will focus on operational tasks at the Project Management Unit of the Kartarpur Corridor.
