The 96th Academy Awards nominations have been officially revealed, setting the stage for Hollywood’s most prestigious event scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 10. Among the noteworthy highlights are the surprising snubs of Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig for their contributions to Barbie, as well as the absence of Leonardo DiCaprio in the Best Actor category for Killers Of The Flower Moon.
While Oppenheimer dominated the acting nods, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt, there were some unexpected twists and turns in the nominations. Notably, Killers Of The Flower Moon’s male lead, Leonardo DiCaprio, was left off the list, but his co-star Lily Gladstone, a Golden Globe winner, secured a spot in the Oscar race.
The Barbie team faced heartbreak with the omission of its star and director, but there was a silver lining as America Ferrera earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The diversity of nominees was further emphasized with names like Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt, who previously secured Golden Globes in their respective categories.
This year, the Oscars introduced a diversity rule for Best Picture nominees, requiring films to meet at least two out of four “representation and inclusion standards.” This initiative aims to boost the portrayal and employment opportunities for traditionally under-represented communities, including women, LGBTQ+, and various ethnic and disabled groups.
The nominations were announced by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid, with the awards ceremony set to be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Here is the complete list of nominees for the 2024 Oscars:
