Only The Congress Can Defeat RSS-BJP: Rahul Gandhi

| Updated: April 9, 2025 19:28

Even as the Congress has embarked on a mission to strengthen party’s organisational structure, its leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that no party other than the Congress can defeat the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He was speaking at the All India Congress Committee’s session held in Ahmedabad at the Sabarmati Riverfront. The AICC session was organised in Gujarat after 64 years.

The leader of the opposition said that only the party with an ideology and clarity can defeat the RSS and the BJP. Any party not having an ideology and clarity cannot stand before them, he said.

He said the Congress has Indira Gandhi’s ideology, who once asked had replied that she was the Prime Minister of the country and stood straight and did not lean left or right.

Alleging that the RSS and the BJP have been daily attacking the Constitution, he reiterated that it is only the Congress that can stop it. “Others can’t see this ideological fight,” he remarked.

On the Waqf Amendment Bill, he said it is an attack on freedom of religion. He also alleged that the BJP has been attacking different organisations as well.

The Congress leader reminded that they had fought against the Britishers and against people having RSS ideology. Theirs (RSS) ideology is not of the freedom struggle. On the day the Constitution was written, the RSS had burnt a copy of the Constitution, he said.

Gandhi warned that the fight is not easy as they (the BJP) has money, has the institutions. Albeit he added that the Congress will have to win as it has the truth. “There is no need to fear. See what the Congress will do to the BJP and the RSS,” he said.

The opposition leader in the Parliament also mocked the relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. In his earlier visit to the US, the two leaders had hugged each other but the hug was missing in the last visit and instead Trump levied tariff. Then there was drama in the Parliament for two days so that the attention was diverted from the USA, he pointed out.

He also came down heavily on the Prime Minister asking why he has remained silent on the comments by the Bangladeshi President. “Where has the 56-inch chest gone,” Gandhi asked.

About the caste census in Telangana, he said it was the need of the hour to know which section of the society is getting what. He said they would do it elsewhere also. The story of Telangana is of the entire country where 90 percent of the OBCs, backward class, tribals and the minorities do not get jobs in the corporate sector.

He said like his grandmother, he does not bother what people speak about him. Gandhi recalled an instance of his childhood when Indira Gandhi had told him that she did not care what people thought about her after her death. “I do not care. I am interested in my work,” Gandhi quoted her grandmother having told him.
