Philanthropist and Reliance Foundation Founder Nita Ambani has been unanimously re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from India. The decision was taken at the global Olympic organisation’s 142nd session in Paris on Wednesday.
On her re-election, Nita Ambani said, “I am deeply honoured to be re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee. I would like to thank President Bach and all my colleagues in the IOC for their faith and trust in me.”
“This re-election is not just a personal milestone but also a recognition of India’s growing influence in the global sporting arena. I share this moment of joy and pride with every Indian and look forward to continuing our efforts to strengthen the Olympic Movement in India and around the world,” she added.
In 2016, she was elected to the IOC for the first time as an individual during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Ambani has made major contributions to the international organisation as the first Indian woman to join the IOC, advancing India’s Olympic aspirations and competitive goals.
Ambani was instrumental in bringing India’s aspirations to the world by organising the nation’s first IOC session in Mumbai in more than 40 years. India intends to submit a proposal to host the Olympics in 2036.
Through her involvement in sports, education, health, art, and culture, she hopes to uplift millions of Indians as the founder and chairperson of the Reliance Foundation. With over 22.9 million children and youth benefiting from its initiatives, the Reliance Foundation is leading the growth of sports in India.
The first-ever India House at the Paris Olympics 2024 will open this summer as part of the Reliance Foundation’s long-term partnership with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
In addition to celebrating victories and bringing the world along on India’s Olympic adventure, India House will also serve as a “home away from home” for players.
