Even after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led government’s attempts to repair the damage done by Nupur Sharma’s controversial comments against Prophet Muhammad, the Arab world is still enraged and has expressed disappointment over the incident.
This morning Saudi Arabi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that it strongly condemned and denounced statements made by the spokeswoman of the BJP, insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
The Ministry said that although it appreciates the efforts made by the BJP, the Kingdom will permanently reject any kind prejudice against any Islamic symbols. The statement also said that the Saudi government supports respect for all beliefs and religions.
Qatar, Iran and Kuwait have already expressed their anger over the said comment and also issued summons to Indian envoys over the matter. BJP is really facing the wrath of the Arab world over the insulting comments.
These statements from the Arab countries come even after the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and publicly condemned her comments. The party also said that these comments were not in-line with the party’s ideologies and reiterated its stand of respecting all religions and beliefs.
Nupur Sharma, herself, also issued statement explaining her stand in the matter. She said her statements were spurred out of frustration over on-going debates on TV that were demeaning Lord Shiva.
Referencing the whole controversy of the Gyanvapi Mosque, she said, that the Shivling was being ridiculed continuously. “It was mocking being said that it was not a Shivling but a fountain.”
Later on, Nupur went on to say that she was withdrawing her comments permanently and that it was never her intention to hurt the feeling of any religious groups.
