NTA Announces Revised Exam Calendar

The National Testing Agency, which has come under heavy criticism over alleged irregularities and paper leaks, has announced new dates for UGC NET exams. The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), which was cancelled a day after being held on Jun 18, is to be conducted afresh from August 21-September 4. The Joint CSIR UGC NET will be conducted from July 25 to 27. The postponed, National Common Entrance Test (NCET) will be conducted on July 10.

The UGC-NET-2024 exam is for the selection of junior research fellows, assistant professors, and PhD scholars. The National Common Entrance Test (NCET) for admission to the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).

The government is under fire over the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination NEET-UG and PhD entrance NET, with discontent simmering among lakhs of students. While NEET exams were being probed, UGC-NET was cancelled midway after receiving input from the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs. CSIR-UGC NET and NEET-PG were cancelled as a preemptive step. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET is accepted for PhD admissions in Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
