Now, A 13-Year-Old In IPL

| Updated: November 26, 2024 14:14

India batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history on Monday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as he became the youngest player ever to be sold at an IPL auction. Suryavanshi was bought for a remarkable Rs 1.10 crore by Rajasthan Royals (RR) after a fierce bidding battle with Delhi Capitals (DC).

At just 13 years old, he will make history as the youngest player to feature in the prestigious T20 league. A left-handed batsman, he made his first-class debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy in 2024 at just 12. In September 2024, he made his debut for India U19 in a youth test match against Australia U19. Suryavanshi reached 100 in just 58 balls to record the fastest-ever hundred for the India U19 team in red-ball cricket.

He was just 4 when his father Sanjeev Suryavanshi saw him playing with a plastic ball and hitting it with sheer power. With time, he made a small playing area in his house’s backyard where his son could practice. Following this landmark achievement, Vaibhav’s father, Sanjiv, expressed his immense joy.

There is some doubt over the authenticity of Suryavanshi’s official date of birth. In an interview in 2023, Suryavanshi had said that he would turn 14 on September 27, 2023. In other words, he was about a year and a half older than his official age. His father has now addressed rumors of age fraud, issuing an open challenge for an age test.
