Nobel Peace Prize winner from Pakistan and an activist for female education, Malala Yousafzai took to micro-blogging site Twitter on Tuesday to announce that she has tied the knot with Asser.
Sharing pictures of her wedding in her post, Malala tweeted, “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”
The 24-year-old did not provide more information regarding her husband, except his first name. However, certain reports have identified him as Asser Malik, the general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s High-Performance Centre.
Born in Mingora, Pakistan, Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman in 2012, at the age of 15. At present, she lives in Birmingham, England. In 2014, she became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize at the age of 17 – the second Pakistani to win a Nobel since 1979.
