The central government has informed the Parliament that it has received 16 proposals for Metro rail projects from various states and Union territories, but none of them has come from Gujarat.
“Based on the feasibility of the proposal and availability of resources, the central government considers such projects in cities or urban agglomerates,” Union minister of housing & urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri Stated, no new Metro rail proposal has been submitted by the Gujarat government for funding, he added.
To provide the public with a quick and clean urban transport system, seven states and two union territories have submitted 16 proposals for expanding or building new Metro rail lines to the Centre.
Urban transport is an essential element of urban development, Puri told the Lok Sabha on February 10. While state governments are responsible for initiating, developing, and financing urban transport infrastructure, including Metro rail projects, the central government considers financial assistance for such projects under the Metro Rail Policy, 2017.
