As many as nine people were killed and 32 others sustained injuries in a collision between a bus and an SUV in Gujarat’s Navsari, in the wee hours on Saturday. The accident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Highway.
According to Ketan Joshi, additional district collector, of the 32 injured, 17 were taken to a hospital in Valsad, 14 were admitted to a hospital in Navsari and another wounded person was taken to Surat for treatment. The nine bodies were recovered by police teams and taken for autopsy.
He said the SUV (Fortuner) was carrying nine passengers, who were employees of a firm in Ankleshwar, and the bus was carrying people from Ahmedabad to Valsad.
Stating that it is too early to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident, he added that preliminary investigation reveals the SUV that was coming from the wrong direction and hit the divider before being swung in the direction of the bus.
Union MHA Amit Shah expressed his condolences to the family members of those who lost their lives and wished speedy recovery to those admitted to the hospital, in a tweet in Gujarati.
