Nijjar Assassination: Trudeau’s Allegations Baseless, Reveals Canadian Report

| Updated: January 30, 2025 19:57

International relations between Canada and India had escalated into a complex diplomatic standoff, following the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Despite Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s insistence of “credible evidence” linking Indian agents to the killing, a Canadian commission report has now concluded that there was no definitive proof of foreign state involvement.

The Canadian report titled ‘Public Inquiry Into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions’, revealed that the Canadian PM’s allegations had no substance.

It states that the Canadian PM went to war against India with a dud bomb.

“Disinformation is used as a retaliatory tactic to punish decisions that run contrary to a state’s interests,” Commissioner Marie-Josee Hogue said in the report.

“This may have been the case with a disinformation campaign that followed the Prime Minister’s [Trudea’s] announcement regarding suspected Indian involvement in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar (though again no definitive link to a foreign state could be proven),” the report added.

The present situation also underscores how the diplomatic fallout — with expulsions of diplomats from both sides — has intensified the situation.

This development seems to undermine the foundation of Trudeau’s claims, especially given that India has continuously asked for concrete evidence, which has yet to materialise. The situation highlights the tension between Canada’s domestic issues related to the Khalistani movement and its broader geopolitical relationship with India.

The 123-page report also studied the expulsion of six Indian diplomats from Canada in October 2024, mentioning a “targeted campaign against Canadian citizens by agents linked to the Government of India”.

India, according to media reports, expelled six Canadian diplomats and withdrew its high commissioner in response, marking diplomatic fallout between the two countries.
