Newly appointed Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor has challenged the ruling BJP government to tackle the growing inflation and unemployment in the State.
In his maiden speech at the Pradesh Congress Office here in Ahmedabad today, Jagdish Thakor said the BJP could afford a designer cuisine of costing Rs 25,000 per dish for those coming to attend the cosmetic, unyielding propaganda event of Vibrant Gujarat but could not afford to give poori bhaaji worth Rs 50 to the poor and unemployed State youth. Thakor unwittingly used an expletive for the BJP too at the meeting which Vibes of India has decided not to mention as it does not agree with his tasteless abusive remark.
A fierce orator, Thakor took on the ruling BJP and minced no words claiming that he would ensure that the BJP does not win Gujarat again in 2022.
It must be noted that the Congress has not gained power on its’ own in Gujarat since 1990. In 1990, the Congress supported the Janata Dal Gujarat faction of Chimanbhai Patel and in 1997, it supported Shankersinh Vaghela’s Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP).
However fissures in the State Congress were visible on day one as senior State leaders Bharat Solanki, Arjun Modhvadia and Siddharth Patel, all former State Congress presidents did not attend the cake cutting ceremony organised by Thakor’s supporters at the State Congress headquarters in Paldi.
Jagdish Thakor from North Gujarat is an ex MP and MLA of Congress. This is the first time in over 19 years that the Congress has not recycled old leaders but appointed a fresh face as their State head.
