The new parliament building is undergoing final touches and will likely be completed by the end of this month, sources said on Tuesday.
They claim that civil structures have started to be cleaned, but the government has not yet said when the new structure would be inaugurated. Two years ago, work on the new parliament building had commenced.
The freshly constructed building is a component of the Central Vista’s redevelopment as the country’s power corridor. The project is being carried out by the Central Public Works Department, which also includes the rebuilding of the three-kilometre road that connects the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate, the building of a single central secretariat, a new prime minister’s office and residence, and a new vice-president enclave.
“The new parliament building will be ready before the end of this month. However, there is no official date yet for its inauguration,” sources said.
According to the reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely inaugurate the new parliament building around May 30, when the BJP government will be completing its nine years.
The date of the building’s inauguration would be decided by the government, according to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s remarks from November of last year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the new, state-of-the-art Parliament building in December 2020. The new Parliament building is being built by Tata Projects Ltd. It will feature an enormous constitution hall to highlight India’s democratic legacy, a lounge for elected officials, a library, many committee rooms, dining places and plenty of parking. The project was supposed to be finished by November of last year.
