Undeniably, the sun is a source of light and life. While UV radiation does have its harmful effects, the sun rays are also an optimal source of Vitamin D, needed for bone health and also to process many nutrients ingested by way of food.
It is believed that the sun rays have healing powers and water soaked in this heat, is an antidote to many ailments. Though research still has to back this fad, scientists are unanimous in hailing solar radiation as a means to purify water. Solar energy is known to disinfect water from lakes and rivers. Over prolonged exposure, UV rays kill harmful bacteria , parasites, and viruses.
Taking it further, health watchers are now endorsing “sun-charged” water. Simply put, you have to fill your bottle with water and place it under direct sunlight for 8 hours. You can do it daily or for maximum results, place it in sunlight for 3 days for 8 hours each day. Do not refrigerate this water. Preferably use a glass transparent bottle and clearly avoid cheap plastic (coloured) bottles.
In fact, Surya Jal Chikitsa, mentioned in the Vedas is an age-old healing technique, wherein the sunlight charged water was consumed to heal several ailments. Ayurveda states that sunlight enhances the molecular structure of water and changes it into a Vitamin D rich potion. This solution has powerful anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties, which is great for the body and skin. It is also touted as a cure for digestive issues such as heartburn, ulcers and gut disturbances.
Most of the ailments begin with an unhealthy gut. Some fitness gurus advocate the Japanese Water Therapy using sunlight-charged water. Known for their longevity, the Japanese adhere to traditional medicine which recommends drinking lots of water after waking up early morning. These early morning hours are considered to be “golden hours.” New age health gurus recommend sunlight-charged water in the wee hours.
In fact, some also advocate “moon water.” Rituals for harnessing the moon’s energy have existed for centuries. One of these is collecting moon water. Some believe this water is charged with lunar energy, which can then be used to cleanse negative emotions or aid in spiritual transformation.
