From January 1, get ready to shell out more after booking a cab, buying denim of your favourite brand or even footwear irrespective of the price as the GST Council has decided to increase the GST rates in some cases and in some have introduced new measures.
What is more interesting, if you call an auto-rickshaw from January 1 through an e-commerce platform it will become taxable with 5 per cent tax, while service provided through offline mode would be exempted from the tax.
These changes will affect the e-commerce platforms like Zomato and Swiggy as they would be required to raise invoices in respect of services given by them. But customers need not worry as they won’t be required to shell out more as it’s only for compliance purposes. So, now from the new year food delivery apps will have to deposit 5 per cent GST with the Government, in place of restaurants for deliveries made by them.
Get ready to fork out more on finished goods like, apparel, footwear and textiles as the GST has been increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent. The CBIC – Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs notified these changes on November 18.
