Netflix has released the trailer for Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous, a documentary chronicling the life of Punjabi singer-rapper Honey Singh. The film traces his meteoric rise in the Indian music industry, the controversies that marred his career and his personal battles with mental health.
The trailer, lasting just over two minutes, begins by recounting Honey Singh’s humble beginnings as “an ordinary boy from a normal family who lived in a house with no windows for 24 years yet dreamt big.” It highlights his transformative impact on Indian pop culture, with actor Salman Khan lauding him, saying, “Honey has got this one superb thing which nobody else has, which is ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh‘.”
The narrative then shifts to his struggles, including legal battles over allegations of writing obscene songs and the intense public scrutiny that followed. Reflecting on his time away from the spotlight, Honey Singh states in the trailer, “I saw hell. I let my hair and beard grow. I cried and slept all the time.” He credits his family with helping him find a path to recovery, though whether he achieved redemption remains a central question of the documentary.
Describing the documentary, Netflix says it “peels back the layers of Honey Singh’s life to reveal the man behind the angrezi beats and controversies, all the way to his comeback.”
Speaking about the project, Honey Singh said, “For years, there have been countless conjectures about me in the media, and I have never really shared my side of the story. This documentary is the right opportunity to tell my story. My fans have always stood by me, even in my absence, and for that, I am eternally grateful. This docu-film on Netflix goes beyond the spotlight to reveal the real me — the highs, the lows, and everything in between. I’m excited to finally share my journey with the world.”
Directed by Mozez Singh and produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Guneet Monga under the Sikhya Entertainment banner, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous will premiere on Netflix on 20 December.
