The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday sought the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) response to a plea seeking fresh conduct of the medical entrance exam NEET-UG, 2024, on the basis of an alleged question paper leak along with other wrongdoings.
Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah’s vacation bench, however, declined to stay the successful candidates’ counselling for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses. NEET-UG, 2024 was conducted on May 5, and its results were released on June 4.
It was expected to be declared on June 14. The NTA conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) test for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant courses in both public and private institutions across the nation.
Shivangi Mishra and others submitted a plea, which the top court tagged with the pending one and instructed the NTA to file the response in the meantime. The plea alleged that NEET-UG, 2024, was filled with irregularities because the petitioners had information on many instances of paper leaks.
It said that the purported paper leak violated Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to equality, by giving certain applicants an unfair advantage over others who choose to attempt the examination in a fair manner.
