Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Gujarat unit busts a secret ‘Clandestine psychotropic drug manufacturing unit’ at Vapi from where Mephedrone was being manufactured and supplied to different parts of the state and various regions of the country. Two people namely Prakash Patel who used to manufacture drugs and Sonu Ramniwas who used to market the drugs have been arrested red-handed while the delivery of the MD drug was in progress at residential premises at Vapi.
During the raid 4.5 kg of MD and Rs 85 lacs, unaccounted cash from different premises belonging to the accused was seized. NCB had been keeping a watch on the case for the last few days which resulted in this accomplishment. Also, this is a very important case as it’s the first time in Gujarat where such a huge haul of cash and seizure of MD in such a large quantity was made.
NCB will further look into the linkages of this illegal drug network as MD or Mephedrone is addictive and popular among drug abusers. Seizure of Narcotic drugs can lead to prosecution under the NDPS Act which entails provision of rigorous imprisonment of a minimum of 10 years and a fine up to Rs 2 Lakh.
