Protection wall along the National Highway near Por village in Vadodara collapsed due to heavy rains and waterlogging yesterday. The wall crashed together with tits iron railing. This resulted in serious damage in the surrounding areas. Several houses suffered damage, with the wall of one house breaking down. Many houses have some damage to their properties. However, more than 15 people who lived in the affected area have been rescued.
Thousands of vehicles pass through the National Highway every day. The collapse of the wall caused panic among the commuters. This has disrupted traffic and many people were left stranded in the area.
The recent torrential rains have resulted in the overflowing of the Dhadhar River. This has created a flood-like situation in the surrounding areas. People from these areas, including that from the Por village, have been evacuated. This is a major reason why there were very few people in the area when the wall collapsed, leading to a swift and efficient evacuation.
