A district court in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district has directed popular rapper-singer Yo Yo Honey Singh to submit his voice sample in Pachpaoli police station between February 4 and 11 in connection with a case registered against him. The Additional sessions judge allowed Honey Singh to travel to Dubai for entertainment shows till February 4 after while hearing his application seeking waiver of a travel restriction imposed on him.
The complainant, Anandpal Singh Jabbal has alleged that Honey Singh had sung and uploaded a vulgar song on social media. He did not specify the song.
The singer has been booked under Sections 292, 293 (obscenity) of Indian Penal Code and Sections 67, 67A of Information Technology Act for singing and uploading obscene songs on the internet. He had been granted anticipatory bail in October 2015 by the Sessions Court at Nagpur subject to certain conditions including travel overseas.
His application was opposed by the investigating officer who said that the singer was not cooperating with the investigation.
Before disposing of Singh’s application, the judge said, ” It appears that the applicant is bona fide seeking permission to travel abroad for his business engagement on three different dates. Considering the fact that his presence is required by the police to record his voice sample, he has shown his bona fide by filing pursis for providing his voice samples. Under these reasons, I see no legal impediment to grant permission to him by imposing certain conditions.”
