| Updated: June 27, 2024 12:15

A young Muslim man was reportedly beaten to death during a cricket match in Chikhodara of Anand district in Gujarat.

Identified as Salman Hanifbhai Vohra, he was beaten to death allegedly by a group of 15-20 men.

As per reports, Salman had intervened to help his friend Shoaib, who was being assaulted by the group during a local cricket tournament’s final match.

Shoiab was being attacked by Gheto Parmar and Holo Parmar when Salman tried to come to his aid. However, he was then brutally thrashed with bats and sticks, resulting in fatal injuries.

The police have said that they arrested several individuals in connection with the incident.

Mehul alias Gheto Dineshbhai Parmar, Kiran alias Holo Mafatbhai Parmar, and Mahendra alias Fulio Rameshbhai Vaghela were among those detained for their involvement in the fatal beating.

“Others arrested include Akshay alias Ako Narsinghbhai Parmar, Ratilal Raisingbhai Parmar, Vijay alias Pakorani Mangalbhai Parmar (all from Chikhodara), and Ketan Mahendrabhai Patel from Vaghasi. The police have seized various tools and weapons used in the attack,” police said.

All the accused have been produced in court, which has granted their remand until July 1 for further investigation.

Gujarat Congress leaders visited the house of the deceased and demanded stringent punishment to the accused.
