Musk Takes Dig At Meta after FB, Instagram Face Global Outage

| Updated: March 6, 2024 10:30

Following a global outage of social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, Elon Musk took a dig at rival Meta. Musk, who acquired Twitter in 2022, shared posts in response to the outage of Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta. However, the services on both platforms were restored after about an hour.

“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” Musk said in a post on X.

The Tesla CEO also shared a meme featuring the statement by Meta’s Communications Director Andy Stone, where he said that Meta is working to resolve the issue.

There were more than three lakh reports of outages for Facebook and 40,000 reports for Instagram on the tracking website Downdetector.com. London-based internet monitoring firm Netblocks said on X that four Meta platforms — Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads — were “currently experiencing outages related to login sessions in multiple countries.”

“We’re aware that people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X.

social media users across the world complained of widespread outages across several Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, on Tuesday. Voicing their concerns on X, the users said they were not able to access the platform and were getting logged out of their accounts on Facebook and other platforms automatically. The services were, however, resumed after a while.

Meta has about 3.19 billion daily active users across its family of apps, which also include WhatsApp and Threads.
