On Monday, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad seized nearly 70 kg of heroin worth more than 350 crore from a container near the Mundra port in Kutch district. The official stated that because the search is still ongoing, the quantity and value of the seized contraband may increase. Based on a specific tip, the ATS searched a shipping container that had arrived from another country and was being held at a container freight station outside the port.
According to the official, the ATS discovered nearly 70 kg of heroin concealed in the cargo. In the recent past, various state and central agencies, including the ATS and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized drugs worth crores of rupees from shipping containers arriving at Gujarat ports from other countries.
In September of last year, the DRI seized nearly 3,000 kg of heroin from two containers at the Mundra port, estimated to be worth about Rs 21,000 crore in global markets. In May of this year, the DRI seized 56 kg of cocaine from a container near the Mundra port, estimated to be worth around Rs 500 crore.
The DRI seized 205.6 kg of heroin worth Rs. 1,439 crore from a container near the Kandla port in Kutch in April. Around the same time, the Gujarat ATS and DRI recovered nearly 90 kg of heroin worth Rs 450 crore from a shipping container that arrived from Iran at the Pipavav port in Amreli district.
