A container at the Mundra port in Gujarat’s Kutch district was seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Thursday, according to a DRI official.
A team of DRI officers searched the container, which landed at the Mundra port from a foreign country some time ago and has since been maintained at the Container Freight Station nearby, based on particular inputs, the official said.
According to the official, the DRI team discovered 56 kilograms of cocaine, a highly addictive substance, hidden inside the imported commodities. The worth of the seized contraband has remained unknown.
The drug bust came just a month after the DRI seized 260 kg of heroin worth Rs 1,300 crore from a container station near the Kandla port in Kutch.
The DRI confiscated nearly 3,000 kilograms of heroin, thought to be from Afghanistan and valued about Rs 21,000 crore on the global market, from two containers at the Mundra port in September last year, in the single greatest heroin haul in India.
