Mumtaz Patel, the daughter of late Ahmed Patel, the all-powerful political secretary to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and influential treasurer of the party has dropped hints that she is ready to take the mantle of her father’s illustrious legacy forward by taking a plunge into active politics herself. She is said to be waiting “for the right time and platform”
In past weeks, BJP unleashed a vicious attack on Ahmed Patel, who died in November 2020 alleging on the basis of an SIT report in connection with the ongoing cases against Teesta Setalwad that she acted at the behest of and was paid by Ahmed Patel.
Mumtaz Patel was quick to come to defend her late father’s name and tweeted.
In the last few days, she has tweeted that people have high hopes for Congress. The tweet was a reaction to Congress working president Kadir Pirzada’s statement against Patidars.
In another tweet, she expressed her support to Bharuch youth congress vice president Nikhil Shah by appealing for his release as “he was arrested while protesting against the Enforcement Directorate”
Mumtaz Patel’s brother Faisal Patel who initially claimed the legacy of his father was in the news for all the wrong reasons too soon and embarrass himself to great extent. He proposed to actor Amisha Patel through a tweet which he later deleted. Faisal also lost patience, so required in a politician and tried to draw attention to himself by publicly blackmailing the Congress leadership without realising that he does not possess the matching stature to pull off such threat.
Mumtaz Patel is reported to have said “People have responded to my tweets with warmth and respect and such a response encourages me to join politics. I do wish to be part of the community and nation-building. I feel I am born for it. I am waiting for the right time and platform to join active politics.”
“I wish to work with women and youths and that is where I wish to start. I am trying to slowly understand public sentiments in Bharuch, my home ground, with like-minded people, which will spread our wings across the state,” she said.
