Mumbai Police arrested a suspect who had threatened to detonate a bomb at the Jio World Centre during the wedding of industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant, to Radhika Merchant. The high-profile wedding, attended by prominent personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took place from July 12th to July 15th at the Jio Convention Center in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
On July 13th, a social media post raised alarm, warning of an imminent bomb explosion. In response, Mumbai Police intensified security measures around the wedding venue. The bomb squad and sniffer dogs meticulously searched every corner, ultimately confirming that the threat was a hoax.
The Mumbai Cyber Crime Department launched an investigation to trace the source of the threat. Their efforts led them to Viral Kalpeshbhai Ashra, residing in Suvarna Lakshmi Apartment No. A-16, Waghodia Road, Vadodara. Armed with this information, the Mumbai Crime Branch dispatched a team to Vadodara, collaborating with local police units to apprehend Viral within their jurisdiction.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, senior police officers were informed, and Mumbai Police, assisted by Vadodara Police, took Viral into custody and transported him to Mumbai.
The threatening message, posted in English, read: “My mind is completely baffled that half of the world would be turned upside down tomorrow if a bomb goes off at the Ambani wedding, trillions of dollars in one zip code.” The post insinuated that disrupting the wedding would have far-reaching consequences.
