The Annual Spice Meet 2023, the flagship event of the Federation of Indian Spice Stakeholders (FISSH), will take place for the first time in Mumbai on March 3 and 4, 2023, at the Hotel Leela, Sahar Andheri.
The federation is a national organisation with its headquarters in Unjha, Gujarat. It was established by experts, key players, and industry pioneers, bringing together farmers, traders, processors, manufacturers, exporters, and other members of the spice community from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and other regions of the country to create a viable ecosystem for the trade’s growth and development as well as its exports.
It provides practical training to agricultural university students by involving them in field trips for physical and scientific crop surveys of seed spices such as cumin, coriander, fennel, and fenugreek, in collaboration with farmers from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, and under the supervision of faculty members, spice trade experts, and exporters. At the annual meeting, the Crop Survey Report 2023 will also be unveiled.
Legends of the Spice Trade will be honoured for their contributions to the spice trade’s growth and development. Top achievers in domestic and international trade, young budding entrepreneurs for their success and achievements, and farmers for good agricultural practices, organic and IPM farming will all receive awards.
According to Federation chairman Devendra Patel, India’s export of seed spices segment consisting of cumin seed, coriander, fennel, and fenugreek during 2021-22 is INR 4500 crores valued at USD 0.60 billion and consisting of 3.38 lakh tonnes, making a significant contribution to India’s export of overall spices segment valued at USD 4.13 billion. He was optimistic that, due to rising demand for Indian spices, India’s exports could reach USD 4.50 billion, representing a 10% increase over the previous year.
