Shilpa Shetty on Tuesday was acquitted by a Mumbai court in a 15-year-old obscenity case.
The court has declared Shilpa Shetty a “victim” in the 2007 case, which was filed against Hollywood actor Richard Gere for publicly and repeatedly kissing Shilpa on her cheeks and against Shilpa for not protesting.
This kissing incident took place during an awareness program in Rajasthan, which was followed by strong protests in several cities in India and a total of three cases were filed against both in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The case was registered under many sections of IPC.
The metropolitan magistrate of court, Ketki Chavan had discharged Shilpa Shetty on January 18 and a detailed order has been made on Monday. “There is nothing like that which makes Shilpa Shetty a conspirator or perpetrator in the crime,” the court said in its judgment.
However, Shilpa Shetty has not yet commented on the judgment of the court but had shared a post on her Instagram, captioning it, “Being happy is in your hands. Don’t wait for another person, or the weekend, or a special occasion to bring you joy and happiness. When you want to take a couple hours off from your schedule, do it. Want to read a book? Buy it and give it at least an hour every day. Want to paint, dance, sing, write, jog, exercise, swim…? Do it! Do whatever it is that makes you happy. Your mind, body, heart, and soul will thank you in abundance.”
